Black Polish are fun!I know! But I don't know what kind. I think in the US the Australorp may have become a high production breed. I could get a Jersey Giant (appropriate as they are from my home state) but their size intimidates me a bit!

They surely are.How about black Orpingtons? You might like Orpingtons. They're said to be friendly.
There are just those days where everyone is up in arms. The hens don't usually engage in nest drama, seriously they're a very quiet bunch, but I could sell tickets to the show they've been putting on this morning.
At present, both Mary (I thought she was a biddy?) and Peggy are in laundry basket. Even though she laid her egg 30 minutes ago, Ivy climbed back in for a while and climbed back out a moment ago. Janet laid her egg before Ivy's and all four have been calling for an escort, even though I'm right here, being the escort! Add to all this, at one point Mary went so far as to climb on top of the laundry basket. Mayhem!

That is good news. Are they going to look at repairing the tears?Much better thank you MJ. Still feeling stiff and a bit uncertain to walk on but I'm not actively in pain anymore.
I can just get into the chook run if I'm careful and use my walking stick.
Way to go Mary.
@RoyalChick I know that @RebeccaBoyd would agree with me that Marans would also be an excellent choice. She might even be willing to source a few for you. It's a long road trip but that could be fun. How much trouble could it be transporting chicks by car?
They are really stunning birds. What is that like a 12 hour drive? Not totally absurd with an overnight stop. Maybe when I retire - could be a fun way of seeing parts of the country I haven't seen.@RoyalChick I know that @RebeccaBoyd would agree with me that Marans would also be an excellent choice. I'll have others weigh in on feathered feet as I have no feathers on feet. I would love a chick road trip. It likely the only way I'll ever get more chicks. They are really stunning birds. I worry about the feathered feet though. Mine seem to always have muddy feet as it is so I imagine they would get messy and I also worry their flock mates would peck them out.
Otherwise they are really are the perfect chicken for me - black and not too many eggs.
I have to see a specialist to get an opinion yet. That is good news. Are they going to look at repairing the tears?
