Lorna was 921g at breakfast time and she had 8ml of food before she protested so much, the needle came out. There are only 3 more meals in the box, so I'll call the vet today and ask whether her progress indicates continued crop-feeding or a transition to self-feeding. I can prepare a nice mash for her a few times daily if needs be. She seemed keen on mash last night. Either way, I should probably get another box and keep it on hand.

Find a very large black bag, fill it with permethrin dust and jump up and down in it.

I've called the vet and had a good chat with one of the nurses, who read Lorna's file and considered her progress. She's going to enter a transition phase with mash available for grazing and four weigh-ins a day. If a weighing shows shes lost more than 30g, I'll feed her. Otherwise, she can continue on with mashes and dry foods.

The nurse also said it's normal for weight to vary by ~20g for a chicken Lorna's size, as it's possible she's about to poop or has just had a drink, etc. Overall, Lorna's progress is good.
