MJ's little flock

Lorna was 912g at breakfast, and I fed her 10ml. I thought I'd injured her somehow because she laid down in her basket afterwards and sort of collapsed with her eyes shut. She woke up again when I put her on her feet in the sleepout. My heart was in my mouth the whole time. The sooner I no longer need to feed her, the better.

To that end, in a couple of hours, I'm going to make a nice mash and hope she eats some of it.

I've made a mash from pellets, liquid food, cottage cheese, and a little water with bird-specific probiotics in it. I'll let it stand for a while for the pellets to soften into crumbs.

Also, I've just called the local garden centre and found they have Wombaroo Granivore in stock, so that's handy. I'll get another box later on. I'll also get some salmon in tins to make egg and salmon treat in case it tempts her.

She's been more than 900g since this time yesterday.

Right now, she's nibbling on some mash. Luckily her friends think it's delicious and have shown her it's good to eat.

:fl her weight gain continues steadily and without any more crop-feeds.
I've found peer pressure very helpful to get a sick chicken to eat, but the problem is to make sure they can actually get to some of the food.

Caramel and Cannelle refused scrambled eggs on their own but ate it with the others.

All in all It's a good thing you had this scare now and not at the beginning of the crop feeding session!

Good point! I wouldn't have had the opportunity to stop, whereas today, there have been no feeds since breakfast. Whether I give her a crop feed this evening will depend on how her weight is tracking.
