MJ's little flock

Two shots of expresso and an inch of hot water in a glass, not a cup, with a spoonful of unrefined brown sugar.
I have both tea and coffee in that order for breakfast.
I use a bialetti coffee maker so I suppose it makes something like an expresso.. I don't think it tastes the same as when I had an electric expresso machine.
We were talking with friends recently about sugar in coffee, noting it seems to be a generational thing. I don't know anyone my age (46) or under who put sugar in their coffee but most people I know over 55 do.
I had martial arts training this morning (8am on a Saturday!), then I wandered up 100m up the road to my son’s high school and voted. Then walked home and had breakfast. I got a squat from Snowy. :love
That sounds like a good morning !
What type of martial arts ?
I thought I'd better nudge my brother in case he'd forgotten. Turns out he voted a week ago at his local library! 🤣
It's possible to vote ahead, even for a referendum ?
When will you get the results?

It's possible to vote ahead, even for a referendum ?

Yep, but only at selected polling stations. It's handy for people who might not be available on the day and for people who need to avoid waiting in line at all costs.

I think it's also possible to vote early by post, but I could be wrong on that because they always talk about postal votes being counted later. If an outcome is on a knife edge, they have to wait until the postal votes are counted.

When will you get the results?

In an election, as soon as there's sufficient statistical certainty, losers start conceding.

I'm not sure about a referendum though, maybe "statistical certainty" means something other than what I'm used to.

Either way, the ABC says, "Unless the result is very close, we'll know tonight whether Australians have voted to change the Constitution to enshrine an Indigenous Voice to Parliament."

Crikey!

"6.13 million people voted in the two weeks leading up to today at early voting centres, a record for Australian electoral events."

I didn't realise so many people were voting early!

From this news story: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-10-14/key-moments-to-watch-in-the-voice-referendum-count/102937260

And it says the reason we sometimes have to wait for postal votes to be counted is that there are so many of them that they take a long time to count. Whereas a little polling station like the local church I went to doesn't have to count as many votes, so the totals are available sooner.

It also says it'll be faster counting than usual because it's a yes/no thing instead of a list of numbered preferences.

Time for another facepalming panda because I dropped and broke all four eggs that were laid today by hanging the egg basket on a branch and almost immediately knocking it down with my shoulder.

It’s a mixed martial art called Jishukan. We broke away from the main Australian body over a year ago because politics were dictating that if you couldn’t function on the mat, then you shouldn’t be there. Our school head took exception to this, as this would eliminate most of the experienced and knowledgeable martial artists, given that they had been doing it for 40+ years and had arthritis and old injuries from training. So we broke away and became our own entity, and we focus more on self-defence rather than the ‘art’. And we’re inclusive; if you have injuries and limitations (ie me), that’s taken into consideration.
