MJ's little flock

This is just me but my scientific mind is telling me that it is more likely she ingested something like a galvanized nail than the soil is poisoned with it.

If the soil was poisoned with it, wouldn't they all have that problem? Especially those that have lived there longer?
That's what I was thinking too. I'm also linking it to the recent work on the veranda. The men weren't shy about tossing rubbish wherever. While I picked up the obvious bits and pieces, with my eyesight I would've missed smaller things.

This is the problem I've found here in Bristol. Some vets will see birds but from what little contact I've had with them, don't seem to know much about chickens.
Knowledge is one aspect, and an important one. Instruments, tests, all the technical gear is the other aspect.

Passing a large magnet over the ground can pull up things that were tossed aside. Here I can get one at a discount hardware store. A metal detector would be another way to go. I have no idea how expensive those are but the magnets aren't too bad.

I have never seen a cat vet outfitted as well as your chicken vet. It's amazing.
Well, Dr Mark's set up was pretty good but this new vet's clinic is really next level. 3 consulting rooms. Ample hospital boxes. Loads of equipment. I just hope they're not over capitalised because I want them to stay in business for a good long while!

That's good to know. I'll see what options are available to me.

I may be able to hire a metal detector if I can't find strong magnets.

A magnetic to find nails is a pretty standard hardware store item.
Of course it misses stuff but it is better than nothing.
My problem is I have bits of iron in the soil so it gets clogged up rather fast.

I'm thinking there will be a lot of clogging up and also really tiny pieces.

I've just seen Katie and had a chat with the nurse. She has gained weight since commencing treatment. Her poops are improving, which is great news because we want her to be able to poop solids.

She's off her IV now! So that's good news too.

But she's rather unhappy and clearly still experiencing discomfort. Not enough to put her off a salmon salad!

There's some solid fecal matter in this poop and the nurse showed me photos of her overnight poops which were even better than this one, although still very watery.

I've got another video which shows how down hearted she is. I'll share it when I get home.
