I've been seriously contemplating a week in the snow. I think it would be very good for me to be snug in a cottage for a week, reading books with no technology. Maybe in 2026? Or 2027?

I highly recommend it. I have had a wonderfully relaxing day today.

That Reddit post is exactly what I was saying about the type of grit you're referring to (granite) not being available on the market in Australia. Only shell grit is available.

It's available here but is usually sold in aquariums as fish tank gravel, it would be easier if they did bag it as a poultry supplement and sold it next to the shell grit though.

It never occurred to me to visit an aquarium shop for chicken supplies.

Yeah I usually grab their special on danios or neons while I'm there too, I put them in their water bowl and it gives the chooks some entertainment catching them.. for about a minute .

I would find that a little gruesome but no doubt your chooks love it!

when they finish them they look up at you from the bowl as if to say is there any more, so I would say that they love them.
It maybe a bit gruesome but bears catch salmon to eat and many birds of prey catch fish from the lakes and the oceans so I think of it more as a thing of nature.

Yeh, nature is often rather gruesome!
