MJ's little flock

My comments have been a little sparse lately, it's been a hectic week.

All four hens are carrying on as usual, except that sometimeI am permitted to touch gently. Other times it's out of the question.
Can you hand feed them MJ?
I start off by hand feeding and then progress to touching their beaks. Very few hens have objected to having their beaks touched and it's a good way to start making friends.

I have sometimes seen mine groom each others beaks ~ removing food that's got stuck ~ but the other week I saw a hen just constantly pecking another's beak, very gently. It seemed to be a sign of affection but I thought it was weird behaviour. Never seen it again.

Yes, they like eating from my hand. Usually because I'm holding a crust of bread and they loooove bread! But they would rather eat proper food from the dispensers.

I will try touching beaks and see how we go.

I think the pats at roosting time are helping.

I've never seen that.

But every now and then Janet will take a crumb from Ivy's face.

Good morning MJ :frow You could be totally right! A while back I had a hen that would come to the back door for meal worms. If she got them, all was good and she'd go sun herself on the deck. If not, she'd leave an incredible poop on the steps for me. :gig
They're funny little creatures and very endearing.
