It's more I don't like noise so I've never been one to just turn the radio on for background. I've usually been quite intentional about music when I listen to it & I have ended up with odd tastes. I came out of the hippie folk stuff [Baez, Dylan et al] didn't listen to anything all through the 70's, 80, & 90's until YD started singing training ~ which was classical, but gave me experience with a huge range of musical styles. Now I have you tube so can listen to some stuff I'd never have heard otherwise like the HU or Omnia, throat singing, jolk....a pretty endless list of stuff that is anything but mainstream. I don't like it all but I like to hear the variety. It's not to everyone's taste but I love itthere's some very interesting contemporary pop music on a show called The Sound. It's on the ABC. Some of today's youngsters are being very inventive with their poetry and musicianship.
