MJ's little flock

Hi @rjohns39 and @Grammy60 :frow

I'm on coop clean up duty today. I imagine it will take 3 hours and three cups of tea. There's a lot of old litter to shovel. Then, it seems wrong to clen out the coop and not rake the yard, so I'll do that too. Seems silly to clean out the coop, rake the yard, and not switch out the straw in the nesting boxes and spray with coopex, so I'll do that too. Then I'll refill the feed dispensers and wash out the water dispensers, and take that last cup of tea while watching the hens consider their fresh home.

Have a lovely friday afternoon/evening :)

An update on Sandy

She's been improving a little more each day. She was so poorly ten days ago, I have no doubt she'd have died without her first vet consult and the antibiotics (lincospectin). This morning, she's showing real commitment to her food and water. She's seems to have more presence of mind, she's in the moment if you know what I mean, brighter in her attitude, which makes me think she's no longer preoccupied by funny feelings in her body.

Last night she slept up on the roost beside her captain/nurse. This morning she trotted behind me to the woodshed where the food is stored, then out again to the bench where I like to sit and watch over the breakfast (which is a few cups of Laucke's Seventeen). She ate more breakfast than Janet or Mary. Then she inspected the nesting box after Janet had laid her egg. Nos she's in the tall grass nibbling some snacks.

Her follow up appointment is Monday. I'm confident of a good report.

Sounds like you did it. I'm so happy to hear that she is more like herself. That is just wonderful news! Great job!

The boss

I was supervised through most of the shovelling of the litter. Good thing too, as many yummy bugs were revealed.
