MJ's little flock

Thanks @Ribh! This morning she's full of energy and chickeny joy :) I'm so lucky she gave me such strong indications of sickness. I'm very grateful to her for showing me she was sick. It's been a stressful couple of weeks.

I'm so glad it wasn't too hot throughout Sandy's illness! She might not have made it through if we were in the peak of summer.

I'm pleased her egg had some bloom on it. Usually her eggshells have a very papery texture, but this one was a little glossy.

I need to think hard about the hens' diet now. I'm going to start by multiplying the feeding stations. I'm looking forward to your thoughts on selenium.

How are your chooks this morning? Will you do another chook of the week soon?

I've been a little distracted by the Chile situation. My girl likes to share the journey & I inevitably wake to disturbing updates. There's really nothing coming through on our news & I'm sure the girl is keeping the worst of it to herself. A panicked mother she does not need. I will do another *chook of the week* soon but there is a little Tuppence story to keep you going this morning.:lau

Good morning folks :frow

Jeannie, I totally understand the fear factor we as parents have. I had to read off when my son was in Iraq... I just couldn't deal with knowing details I couldn't share with Sue. It's really tough for any parent.

I'm rather concerned that so much unrest is being omitted from the news. Why aren't we hearing more about it? It should be the headline, surely?
The *news* seems to mostly consist of celebrity gossip & sensationalism. Not interested in either. What is happening in Chile is socially important. It has been one of the more stable SA countries so this can not be good news. :(

I have peace about my girl @ this time, Bob, but the situation is troubling. She is due to leave for a conference in Hungary in a few weeks then home on furlough but it is difficult to make decisions when you aren't sure if the situation will deteriorate so much she won't be able to get back in to the country.

I can't share with her grandmother though. We told her something when the news broke here but no details.

Jeannie, I so so understand. I've spent decades fighting the bad guys. Too many things got up and personal, but never as personal as when my kid was involved. I am all too familiar with how the news works... Let's just say I miss the days when folks wanted to present facts and let us sort out what we saw as truth. If you wonder why I like hanging out with you folks, it's because some of my best memories come from my Aussie friends fighting this crap in the trenches.:hugs

Absolutely terrifying! :hugs :fl

I’m also dismayed by the lack of good information being shared in the media... this is mostly why I no longer follow the “news”. When it’s more about who Brad Pitt (my fav male “celebrity in example”, nothing intended) is dating or what the Markle royal bride is wearing, or political backlash and the ‘oooh! Legalization of pot!’ Or the latest ‘Trump Scandal!’ than the important events in the world? Meanwhile there people with toxic undrinkable water in Canada, war, famine, and civil unrest in many other countries. I’m sorry, but the sensationalism must end at some point... it’s scary how easily manipulated society has become. :hmm

I agree. It's disturbing. My wife said she finally saw something on it on tonight's news. It's taking too long for this to be reported upon.
