MJ's little flock

I put two generous teaspoons of honey into two litres of medicated water. They're all drinking it now! Instinct tells me to keep them on medicated water for another day for good measure. But I'll check up on that before doing it. Perhaps one day of medicated water is ample. They're due for a second dose in a week.

Hi MJ, I’m glad you got them dosed. I was going to ask if they would drink Piperazine (it treats roundworm, but only roundworm). I initially tried the Aristopet wormer (which was bright pink) and they balked at it. So I tried them with Piperazine and they drank it. Then when the vet found a tapeworm egg, I gave them Avitrol Plus (also bright pink) but they drank that. It’s not listed for chooks but you can work out the dosage. I gave them 25ml in a litre of water two weeks apart. And there’s an egg-withholding period of at least seven days. :hmm

Hi Lozzy :frow
I went with kilverm because that's what the vet was able to source. I like it because there's no egg withholding period and I loves my eggies :p

Not sure if I mentioned this already but Mary refused to drink the Aristopet brand. She tasted it but went no further, so I reckon it was the flavour that put her off. I haven't tried piperazine yet, but I daresay the day will come :)

I remember with puppies I used Earli Worm it was piperazine but chocolate flavored - I took their word for it, didn't want to taste it. I never got any worms out of them, thought it was a crummy product.

Then a women sent me a stud fee puppy and I just thought I'd routinely worm it. Earli Worm proved it's mettle. Found a pile of writhing spaghetti (round worms) bigger than the size of the puppy - no joke. I never doubted that product again.

Wormed again later and just got a few stragglers. That poor pup.

The Piperazine is almost colourless and apparently tastes ok. I was a bit worried when I saw the Avitrol was pink, but when it’s diluted (and the waterer base is green) you could hardly see it, and it must have tasted ok. I don’t want to use that too often in case the worms develop a resistance, plus I also like my eggies! ;)
