MJ's little flock

Aww that's sweet. It's only when Mary's asleep that I can touch her without panic.

You may be able to get a cuddle in when it’s almost dark and she’s still awake. Even if it’s just a 30-second cuddle, it might help her get used to being touched. When I need to spray my girls with mite spray, I wait until it’s dark, then I lift them out of the house and spray them by lamplight.

They make the most beautiful noises :)

Since my last update, I could hear Janet scratching in an attempt to make a nest, so I put some straw in a copper drum and turned it on its side. She's in there now, making it comfy. Usually it holds the firewood in the living room, but not today :)

Ingenuity. It is a necessary talent when raising and keeping chickens. Great idea for the nesting material.

My neighbour suggested I make a shelter from hay bales before the next heat wave. It's a good idea. I'll give it a try.

I'm thinking two bales psitioned parallel but maybe a metre apart, planks of wood spanning the gap, then four bales across the top.it would be open both ends. I could run the sprinkler at one end so the ground stays wet and any breeze will pick up a mist.

That would make a nice little shelter. Good suggestion.

I lie on my bed some days in the mid summer and the chickens know my house is cool and turn up after morning forage. Listening to them chat is one of my favorite past times.
I must mention though, when the roosters crow it is pretty loud in the house.:)

I would love to have my little BG in the house, but he suffers from little man syndrom and crows ALL THE TIME! LOL While I personally find his little crow adorable, Rich does not at least not in the house anyway.

I love seeing the chooks in the house, but what I like most is that gorgeous soaking tub!! My oh my the hours I could spend in there!
I live in great-grandfather's house and not a week goes by without feeling grateful to him for providing such a delightful home, and that tub often features in my stress management.
