Hahaha! :gig

You're a funny thinker Mr Bob!

I did think Janet is a Barnevelder but I wasn't sure.
I know virtually nothing about the common breeds popular in the US.
She has that double lacing in her feathers that makes Barnevelders stand out, but it's not as clear and sharp as it is on @WhoDatChick 's beautiful hen.

A plate of Mary's eggs :)

She's only recently come back from her summer holiday, so it's been rather a long time since I had a plate of her eggs.

Mmmm, scrumptious.

Reflecting on this photo

I'm really glad I expanded the hens' yard so that it takes up the whole back patch because they like to stand in the shade beside the old red garage on summer mornings. Then they use the tall grasses as cover while the sun passes over, "cover me grasses, I'm going over to the other side." So they needn't be in direct sunlight at all. Doesn't stop Janet and Sandy from sunbathing though - they like to fan their wings out under the sun. Mary has never tried sunbathing. I think her balck feathers heat up faster and cool down slower.

Clever little chookies!😃

So, I've been making lots of phone calls and have identified the one fodder store selling heritage breeds to backyard chickeners. Sandersons Fodder in Coromandel Valley.

I'm writing the post as a note to myself so I don't forget.

They've got some heritage breed pullets arriving on Saturday and I'm passing by Coromandel Valley on my way to my aunty's bbq on Sunday afternoon, so I'll pop in and introduce myself.

Ok chickeneers!

Sanderson's fodder store has received a few heritage pullets.

Here's the list provided on their facebonkers page:

2 Vorwerks
1 Norfolk Grey
1 splash Australorp
1 blue Olive Egger
1 splash Wyandotte
Several gold laced Wyandottes

And

Several Pekin bantams but I'm not keen on bamtams at this time.

I'm thinking either the Vorwerks or the Norfolk Grey + the Olive Egger.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Maybe Mary would like an Australorp friend?
