Cillin had successfully moved his entire tribe to the car port when Tackle decided it was time for a dust bath. Cillin tried the herding shuffle, then even pecked Tackle; she didn't budge.
So here he is tapping his toes with impatience waiting for Tackle to get out of the bath!

Knock and chicks out and about. After knocks last hatch which was in what was Notch's coop before he moved in with Donk and Myth after the death of Gedit, she had the chicks out on day three and ranged quite a distance. This hatch she's been very cautious. It's only been in the last couple of days she's spent more time out and about than in the run.

The chicks are very different from one another! It looks like you've got lots of genetic diversity in the Knock's tribe.

What interesting looking hens you do have. Knock almost looks like some of the mille fleurs I have seen. Or the Swedish flower hens. The speckling is very pretty I think.

The bantams already had a bit of a mix in them when they came here. Sometimes the Marans genes are very evident; Donk and her sister Dent show more Marans than anything else. One of the British Maran strains has the same patterns and colours as Donk.
It's all the fault of one hen called Mini Minx.She was a nightmare with the roosters. A bit like Ruffles, Mini Minx liked her men.

I think come spring I might try to interest schools in raising chicks and chickens. Have no Idea how that will go, but think it will be worth a shot.

It'll give the teachers a chance to talk about endangered species. You could maybe package up some lesson plans and learning resources.

I have to ask; do roosters get all randy with their mums/daughters/sisters or is there an inherent gene thing where they know to spread the gene pool elsewhere? Or is that not a problem?
