I agree. I can't see it being about the pullets either. It's usually food or territory.So you took it from them and gave it to the pullets.
Of course they are going to look at it. Whenever I had the pullet ccop in the run, Patsy would go in it to check it out and even eat pullet food if the door was open. It was hers originally and as alpha hen all the territory belongs to her.
It's not about the pullets it is about them and their world.

I think come spring I might try to interest schools in raising chicks and chickens. Have no Idea how that will go, but think it will be worth a shot.
Hens know when they are related to a rooster and will try not to mate with them. Should the rooster successfully mate with her, the hen can expel his seed should she wish to do so.
