MJ's little flock

Yeh, that's very easy. I feel for British bird fanciers now they've had Brexit. Hopefully things won't get too much harder for them at the border.

For Aussies, pretty much forget importing live birds. If someone really wanted to, they'd be better off importing fertile eggs. Even then, there'd be loads of restrictions.
I looked up our govt's rules for importing fertile eggs of fancy chicken breeds and took screen captures.

So. Much. More. Costly than between EU countries.

But biosecurity really matters and most of understand.

Perhaps frozen sperm would be easier to import?

I wonder how one would artificially inseminate a hen? ....Without her "ejecting" the semen. Wouldn't that be a pain after going through all that effort!

Lucy’s made it to 4 and I’m thankful for every day I have her. I don’t know how much longer she will live but she’s a tough old bird and appears to be in good health.
Tsuki and Deana are 4 and 1/4 at the moment. I credit BYC and your support as I'm sure I would have lost Deana at least to egg binding if I hadn't learnt a ton of stuff here.

I was wondering about establishing a show class for longevity and good health.

Best hen with chicks, over 7 years.

Best hen with chicks, over 10 years.

And age classes for single hens, single roosters, and breeding trios.
I love this idea! I wonder how we could go about getting new classes introduced into the agricultural shows?

I'll have to hunt up judges or whatever when I'm at the Easter Show this year. 🤔

I would have to ask her, but I’m pretty sure she said she had a 12 year-old rooster who got so excited when she brought leftover sandwiches home, he had a heart-attack and died right in front of her!
At least he died happy...rather a shock for your friend though 😢
