I love watching them preen as well. It is one of those peaceful moments. Just the sounds of beaks and feathers ruffling.

It's a lovely sound. And it's heartwarming too because they have enough trust to switch off their defences and preen within hearing.

I noticed a marked difference between Charlie and Bessie and the Faverolle girls when I first let them out after quarantine. Charlie and Bessie were little scaredy-cats and would jump at anything, whereas Tegan, Nyssa and River were a lot bolder and more curious. Tegan and River aren’t laying though! My mum asked if they may be laying in secret somewhere, but I don’t think so. Their combs and wattles aren’t as red as Nyssa’s.

How old are they Lozzy? Sorry, I should know but I've been a bit too hectic at work for remembering things that aren't work.

I agree, Ivy is one of the most unique looking hens I've ever seen. She is beautiful.

I like that her breeding is unknown, it lends an air of mystery

They are super gorgeous. Ivy is simply stunning.

One of Ivy's interesting features is the colour of her legs. They're quite white under those feathery trousers. With black claws. She's like a fancy lady with painted nails!

How old are they Lozzy? Sorry, I should know but I've been a bit too hectic at work for remembering things that aren't work.

That’s ok, I’m the same. Charlie’s really the only one where I’m close to knowing her actual age. I bought her and Bessie at 16 weeks from a breeder, so that would put her birthday mid-November (apparently she’s a week younger than my nephew!) That would make her a year and five months. If Lucy was 18 months old when I got her, that would have made her four in March. However, I originally thought she was 14 months when I got her and Emily, so I can’t say for sure. When I got the Faverolle girls, when I asked about age I was told “about 12 months”. So I’m not sure if they were 11 or 13 months or something like that, but they were younger than the ones they were in with. I got them in February this year so the best I can guess is
that they’re around 14 months.
