MJ's little flock

This morning's banquet was the same delightful ritual that it always is, except I'm going through a silver tea set phase (I really appreciate the lidded milk jug because it keeps the milk safe from Blossom while my back's turned), those are Peggy's eggs on the plate and the vintage transferware teacup was bought in a friend's garage sale :love

So elegant! That's a beautiful pot and milk jug. How do you keep them so shiny?
The strainer is immaculate too 😍🥰

Were Peggy's eggs yummy? 🤗

Delicious! I'm very grateful to her.

It's not real silver, it's epns. So it can't take abrasive cleaners. I made an aluminium foil + baking soda hot bath for each piece and rinsed and repeated until there was no discernible improvement in the finish. It was fun kichen chemistry!

Well it worked really well.
I didn't think to do the repeat bath with mine🤦‍♀️

I think it's also a good idea to let them soak in the bath for a fair while. If the water starts off boiling, maybe let them soak until the water is luke warm, then rinse and repeat.

Thanks for the tips. I will try the MJ method. ☺

Edit: I wonder how it would work if I boiled my teapot with foil and carb soda in an aluminium pot? Maybe I wouldn't need the foil? 🤔

I believe the carb soda forms a medium that enables tarnish to migrate from silver to aluminium. But I'm not sure how much tarnish aluminium can take before it says, "no more for me, thanks, I'm full." i guess you could then scour the aluminium pot to remove the tarnish, then go again.

When I did it recently, I put in new alfoil each time. The instructions I was following said once the alfoil is used, chuck it out and use fresh for the next bath.

It was a waste of alfoil, but I figure it's a once a year job, if that. So I talked myself into being ok with it.
