MJ's little flock

Good evening everyone 😊

Working on staying cool, just so tired of being in the house. I'll make it though and I'm getting around with my cake pretty good 😉 I think Bob knows to stay out of my way 😂
Everything is conspiring to keep us all in our house this year, between COVID and the heat. :barnie Try not to get too frustrated.

I working on it - some days in fine with staying inside, and then others 😞 but I also know I have to stay calm because of my blood pressure :(
I was outside at 6 am this morning and in the shade it was bearable. It turned out to be a wonderful morning with all the hens visiting me and hanging out for a least a little while. It's now 820 and it's getting steamy again. I need to head in for work soon.

That's what I have to do -go out early and late evening, right before bed. It's not much outside time, but I'll take it 😊 I think that would be a great way to start the day :) I'm starting to forget what work is 😉 You have a great Wednesday🙂

It's just gone 8am in Adelaide and I'm having some morning chicken time while the ladies intimidate poor Blossom. I caught a couple of snaps to show how the crisis unfolded.

Mary says don't you come too close to young Ivy.
Blossom says hissssss

Mary says good, crisis averted.
Blossom says I'm outta here! That big hen is scary!!

I love how intimating chickens are to others! After a few pecks to the nose, Rex gives Stanley and Thunder a very wide berth when around them.

Like Blossom, I would probably be frightened if I came across a chicken who was taller than me! But I'm glad the chooks have enough courage to keep the other pets away.

This little friend has been dropping feathers lately and it's making her feel a bit down. I thought her moult was over weeks ago, but not so.

Byt she's still got enough energy to stand on a stack of bricks like a champion :love

She is very pretty! Hot and steamy here too. I am worried that the Princesses don't seem to be drinking a lot - I would have thought that they would drink a load in this weather. They seem very well but the level in the waterers doesn't seem to be going down. And yes, I have checked the ones with nipples that they are working - and two are just open. So I have been 'forcing fluids' by giving them chicken ice-cream with cucumbers frozen in water and whey. It seems popular and maybe they are getting the fluid they need that way. But I can't help worrying.
The little ones seem to be drinking plenty.

We're in winter at present and it's a relief to not worry about hydration.

I found Mary drinks more when the water is fresh, so in summer I empty and refill the water dispensers every day. If you're not doing that, you could give it a try and see what happens. Also, if they're earing ice, maybe they won't feel thirsty?
