I always feel slightly superior when other people talk about their "brown" eggs.

So mine aren't even brown in your eyes. I guess mine are mearly beige then.

The winter egg drought has broken!

White- Deana
Blue- Pepper
Brown- Edwina

Deana is still laying thin shelled eggs and I usually find them broken but it is still exciting!

That's Marans brown! Good shape to it too.

So, when I let the hens out this morning, Mary went to the nest as fast as she could. She's still in there. She laid 16 eggs in January and none since. I hope to find a gift from her later

Update: now Ivy is sitting beside and slightly on top of Mary in the nest box. Good thing it's a double berth.

She's out of the nest and calling for an escort. Ivy's still in the nest box, so I won't check for a Mary egg just yet.

I assume the one with speckles at one end is Mary's egg because the other is typical of Ivy's.

I think she's upset that her egg went missing (it's in the fridge). When I approached the yard, she walked me over to the nest box and wanted me to investigate. I complied and found the nest newly disheveled. Maybe she'd been in there trying to find her egg? Very strange.
