MJ's little flock

Help me out folks.

My retired uncle recently gave a whole day of his life to help me out. Please suggest a thank you gift. His hobbies are riding his fancy bike every day in a sporty way and making bread in his breadmaker.

He loves lollies and chocolates but I just gave him some for Christmas.
Was going to suggest a slab of beer or a bottle of something but it doesn’t perhaps sound like his thing 🤭😅

I have a little question.
Peoples thoughts on mealworms as a treat (dried vs live)?
And should I wait until Snow and Belle are a bit older than 10 weeks before I introduce things like this?

I tend to do dried for 2 reasons:
I can get a really, really big bag of the things which lasts for ages
I hate handling the live worms if I'm honest.

You can grow & harvest your own if you are into that sort of thing. @Kris5902 can help you out with that.

I asked a similar question recently & the general consensus was yes ~ just remember they're a treat & don't go overboard with the treats.

Awesome, thanks!!
Don’t think I could do my own, not a fan of the live ones either hahaha

Both dried and live are popular with the hens. But live are super-appreciated.

If you must give treats (eg to encourage the chickens to go where you need them) be very sparing. They're so sensitive to starch and fat. I ruined Peggy's liver through providing too much starch and fat.

Ah! I know what I'll do! I'll ask aunty what he needs for his bike.

Does he get his bike serviced somewhere regularly? You could get a gift voucher from the bike service place. Every birthday and Christmas hubby gets gift vouchers from his favourite bike shop towards sevices. We joke that he’s single-handedly keeping them afloat!

I remember giving live ones to both ISAs as a treat here and there in the past and they give those little squeaks of joy (the same as when they get corn cobs/kernels)
Never had dried so I’ll give them a shot, see what happens 🙂
Belle is so food focussed it’s cheeky. She comes up on Bok from behind and pinches food from between her feet, and yesterday she grabbed a bit of boiled egg right out of Bok’s beak when they were ranging and ran off before Big Bad Bokky knew what had happened 😂😂
