Oh, direct me to a post showing the progress please MJ.

I'll make a new one in a moment Shad. The short version is that it's all done except for the roof, pop door and a little painting.

This one shows the whole run and you can see the wire is up on all the walls (yesterday's achievement)

This photo shows the human door, which needs wire on the top half and painting. And the cat for perspective. It's a very wide door so I can get the wheelbarrow through with great ease.

The next one shows there's no wire on top yet. They're having a go at that today.

And finally, we moved all the hens' things in and they spend their days in there. They seem to like it.

I changed the orientation of the little coop and tables to give wider shade, which is appreciated on hot days. When it's a very hot day, I leave the end of the hose under the tables, on a trickle. As we're on sand, the water doesn't puddle, it soaks in to make a cool wet patch. This cooling method has been even more successful than misting. Mary, who almost melts in the heat, copes extremely well with the shade, cool feet and a sit down on wet sand.

This photo also shows where the chicken door will be.

Once the tradies are finished, I'll move on to paving a metre deep path around the perimeter to deter digging predators.

After that, I can think about making a roosting box in the run.

Yes! On the whole.

The only disappointment is how long it's taken but there are sensible reasons for that.

Both Peggy and Janet did well at the vet. No changes needed

I've booked Mary and Ivy in for next month.

And Mark said he'd be willing to euthanase any roosters if I get Ivy some fertile eggs to hatch one day. He said its humane and they'll have had a lovely childhood with their foster mum doing chickeny things.

Well, there was no work yesterday after all due to the heat. That's fair and also compliant with OHSWIM. So they're planning to come again Sunday.
