MJ's little flock

As I'm sure you can imagine, Rose's spaghetti sauce had no recipe. The same is true for her meatballs. She made it as her mother made it. A little bit of this, a little bit of that. Tastes a little different everytime. My daughters, especially my little engineer, could not cook that way.

So one day I stood with her and wrote down everything she did and measured every ingredient before it went into each dish to write down a recipe for them. I did the same with my 80 year old grandmother to capture her rice pudding recipe. Rose is like that with pie crust too. A handful of this a little bit of that. It's done when it feels done.

I stand in awe of everyone who cooks that way. :bow

This is the way hubby cooks. I'm a very by-the-book cook. It has taken me years to relax enough to cook without a recipe, and even then it's only things I make often.

These are 9 to 10 inches in diameter. Not the same thing. See it covers the whole dinner plate.

I can see I'm going to have to make a Dutch baby for comparison. They are fun to watch cook because they have convulsions in the oven.

And look like little UFOs. 🛸

Hubby's parents are Dutch. We have one of those pans too. You can also use them to make Takoyaki (Japanese octopus balls).

Hang on. Wait.
I think it's a Takoyaki pan that you can also make poffertjies in. 🤔 I'm so confused.....

So am I...
Oh look! It has a little octopus at the front of the pan. It must be a Takoyaki pan that you can also use to make poffertjies!

I know it's not quite the weekend MJ but my tiny Chinese tea set just arrived and I wanted to show it off.

Who was saying that the Lavender and Shadrach mugs don't hold much? These little cups hold about as much as an egg cup. I end up drinking 3 of 4 tiny cups of tea at a sitting. 🤗

Here it is with my tea pet.

You may notice that I also bought a special draining trivet for my Tea Pet. I don't have to worry about overflows from one cup of tea now.

Good evening folks :frow

The lady who taught me to cook Italian, didn't have a measuring cup or spoon in her kitchen. It was all touch, feel & taste.

@Aussie-Chookmum I made that dinner just a couple weeks ago... Didn't have such a pretty plate so served it on paper plates, with a cup of dipping sauce on the side.
