It really is a question of which project to spend on. The structural project to dismantle and reconstruct the veranda costs enough for twenty or thirty cosmetic projects. So it's going to feel unsatisfying. But it has to be done. I can't have the old place tumbling over.Ah yes, these are the other joys of an old house.
My childhood home was entirely made out of fibro including the separate laundry and toilet that backed onto it.
I hated having to use the toilet before bed as a little kid. It faced the loooong backyard and I was torn between wanting to keep the door ajar so I wouldn't get locked in and wanting to close it to stop the monsters in the dark getting me.
I remember getting poised ready to run, quickly flicking off the loo light and racing up the back stairs and diving into the house before I was eaten.
Must have worked because I'm still here.![]()
I used to live here when I was little and I have a dim memory of using the outside loo and finding it too far from family and safety for comfort. Spiders too!Now I remember! The mangle was situated over the white enamel coated, steel, round tub of the machine.
I think my Grandma's machine looked something like this.

It was the only loo we had at the time. My 6 year old sister and I would go together and wait for each other. Still scary for 4 year old me though.I used to live here when I was little and I have a dim memory of using the outside loo and finding it too far from family and safety for comfort. Spiders too!
You were very brave, using the outdoor loo at night. Very brave.
We’ve got something very similar. That's exactly what I imagine. A gently sloping non-slip floor with a long drain along the wall.
When you get to that stage I am happy to share what I learned. I am very happy with mine. That's exactly what I imagine. A gently sloping non-slip floor with a long drain along the wall.
Chickens have projects just like the rest of us. She is making more progress on her project than I am on any of mine. It is admirable. She looks better while doing it too!Janet is digging a very deep hole! I assume she's after a particularly tempting bug.

I love the way she braced the top for safety. That's quite a little engineer you have there.Janet is digging a very deep hole! I assume she's after a particularly tempting bug.

That is quite lovely. We need to redo our master bath as well with something like this.
