I have never given them pulled weeds but I am not sure why. Do you just toss in a big heap? The gardener came today, so four little hens have bellies full of weeds pulled from the front yard

It really sounds like she is doing pretty well all things considered.No. She doesn't seem to be in any pain. She was getting Metacam but not so much for pain but more for it's anti inflammatory properties.
I prefer whenever possible not to give drugs. Metacam in particular is quite powerful and not recommended as a long term solution to pain.
As you know, there is some difficult topology here; steep banks and unstable ground. I've watched Fat Bird negotiate areas I have to bum shuffle down. She has the strength to make the jump up and down to the main roost in the tribes coop and the house nest box. Mainly she gets tired but I would expect this at her age.
Here she is investigating the duck shed as I clean it out.

I do. They get very excited especially if there are seeds.I have never given them pulled weeds but I am not sure why. Do you just toss in a big heap?
I must start doing that. Oh, wait a minute, that means I need to pull weeds. I need to think some more about that!I do. They get very excited especially if there are seeds.
She does, yes. The hens think it's Christmas! So many bits of green to play with and chase each other for.I have never given them pulled weeds but I am not sure why. Do you just toss in a big heap?
The gardener is really a friend I've known for a decade or so. I ran into her at the shops one day and she said she was looking for work, so I offered her the weeding. If a weed comes up, I take a photo and send it to her, then she says "Tomorrow" or "Next week!" or whatever. I'm not fussed. She pops along and takes care of the weeds and sometimes she plants things too or makes mini gardens in hanging badkets and empty pots. I wish she'd talk to me before planting, but oh well, at least the weeding gets done. I say all this because maybe you know someone in need of work.I must start doing that. Oh, wait a minute, that means I need to pull weeds. I need to think some more about that!
I took a second look at Tap's leg, thinking it was bandaged my eyesight... I'mlike Mr Magoo!
That is quite lovely. You have done a wonderful thing. And your hens get weeds! The gardener is really a friend I've known for a decade or so.
