MJ's little flock

He's so much more experienced than I am and he has all the tools of the trade like xray, lab tests, etc. It's so reassuring to know I can take a sick hen and he'll reach a reliable diagnosis much much quicker than I ever would.
Having all the kit is a great help. It's been a problem for Gloria here. She just doesn't have much in the way of specialist equipment.

That was really good the way you picked up on that.
I check my girls out every day looking for anything that isn’t quite right. But I still lost a chicken to “sudden death” last month (I posted about Dorothy, one of my Welsummers) and it left me wondering if I missed signals.
Birds are a lot different than dogs and cats.
It's very difficult I've found to catch problems early. Chickens are masterful at seeming okay when they're not.

I think that is one reason the Vorwerks have worried me so much. They do things that in another chicken would be a cause for concern. I'd rather pull a chicken early & check her over than let it go & have a bigger issue to deal with. It's hard to know sometimes.

Cillin. He seems quite content in his coop.

The rest of Tribe 1 in the big coop.

Cillin is close enough to hear the hens and hopefully not feel too isolated.

Right! That would be unnerving.
