The legbars group. They do mix with the other hens and even seem to quite like one or two of them but when they relax it's almost always in their group.

That is quite a description. I can almost feel it.It's a little scary and apocalyptic but only at first.
I think you did it! Smoothly and without gymnastics. Well done by everyone involved.Mary update. After sitting for about 30 minutes in the opened up little coop, she got up and is right now picking up a few snacks.
Those are true friends trying to help her out.The hens are doing all the heavy lifting!
It's how loud a swarm is that makes it frightening. That is quite a description. I can almost feel it.
When you think about it it's a bee sound multiplied by 300-500 (I guess). So it makes sense that a swarm is quite loud. It's how loud a swarm is that makes it frightening.
When it happened at our house we were all outside for some reason or other (husband, housemate and I,) when all the sudden there were tons of insects everywhere. All kinds of bugs of every kind, then we heard the buzzing and saw bees and more bees until the whole middle of the tree was covered. I guess they drove everyone else out at least temporarily. We just stood there at watched stunned. Took 15-20 min. They moved into the hollow and lived there until the tree broke years later. When you think about it it's a bee sound multiplied by 300-500 (I guess). So it makes sense that a swarm is quite loud.
