Wow! My hottest was 46C/114.8F. The hens survived it really well thanks to the misting system I put up for them.So funny to hear 33C described as "warm!" That is the hottest temperature I have ever experienced and it was boiling hot!
Today's temperature here: -10C/14F.
It was very sweet. They were chatting back and forth about something or otherThat is wonderful. I love that she is making the new hens feel welcome.
Probably comparing humans. It was very sweet. They were chatting back and forth about something or other
I grew up in Canberra and it got down to -6C (21.2F) mid-winter, which was pretty chilly. When I lived in the UK, I had to laugh when 27C (80.6F) was described as ‘sweltering’.Wow! My hottest was 46C/114.8F. The hens survived it really well thanks to the misting system I put up for them.
But the coldest I've ever experienced was around -2C so I would not cope at all with -10.
The good thing is that it's almost never humid where I live. I was once in the UK when then humidity was very high at 28C and I thought I would fall apart, and I just couldn't get my head around 28C being a problem! I'm a tough cookie, used to temps much, much higher but the humidity made that day almost debilitating.
I thought you already had a misting system. I feel like I learned that such a thing existed from you originally. It's been warm today. 33 (91.4) and Mary was panting when I got home.
Tomorrow will be cooler, but I'd better get myself over to Bunnings and set up a misting system before the heat really sets in.
I do! It's in the big coop but the funrun doesn't have one yet.and these days the hens are in the habit of spending their days in the run.I thought you already had a misting system. I feel like I learned that such a thing existed from you originally.
Those Brits! I used an office in a building with no AC at all! Open the window they saidI grew up in Canberra and it got down to -6C (21.2F) mid-winter, which was pretty chilly. When I lived in the UK, I had to laugh when 27C (80.6F) was described as ‘sweltering’.Of course, the Brits got their own back by keeping their office buildings at 20C (68F) when Aussies were used to 23C (73.4F)!

I guess that's the difference. We are set up for cold, well insulated homes, wood stoves, plug-ins for vehicles, but no one has air conditioning. Those Brits! I used an office in a building with no AC at all! Open the window they saidRightio. I'll open it. Made NO discernible difference.
If it's 27C and super-humid, that's pretty yuck. If it's a dry heat it's pleasant. I find these days I get knocked around pretty badly by humidity.I guess that's the difference. We are set up for cold, well insulated homes, wood stoves, plug-ins for vehicles, but no one has air conditioning.
I would consider 27C sweltering too!![]()
