Before putting up the misting kit, I had to switch the double splitter for a triple.

I attached the new garden hose and unwound it. It's definitely long enough to reach a connection to the misting hose.

Time for a cuppa and a fossick through the box.

And here's what it looks like inside.

I won't be using the nail-in hose clamps until I know I've got the misting hose in the right spot. Until then, I'll be using cable ties.

More later... for now I need a sip of tea and a biscuit

It won't take much more than an hour. I'll be surprised if it goes out to two hours.

Having done one before is a big confidence builder. It really is easy.

Back to work.

First, I set myself up at the point where the garden hose will connect with the kit

From the water supply, these kits go tap/hose, filter, misting hose, release valve, misting hose, mister, misting hose, mister, misting hose, ... repeat... end mister.

As I want to be able to use the hose to water the garden, it won't be permanently attached to the filter, but a snap on.

I poked the misting hose through the wire of the run, and hung the surplus misting hose up inside the run to keep it from getting particles in it.

Then I prepared to attach the filter to the garden hose.

That's when I hit a snag. I did not have a spare connecter for between the hose and the filter.

Not one of these fits the bill. Rats.

No worries, I can proceed with the rest of the kit and get a connector from Bunnings later. I have to go get coopex anyway.

So, I snipped the misting hose with scissors and squeezed It back together with the release valve in the join. The filter will go on the tail end of the misting hose and the garden hose will go on the filter.

And the first bit of cable tie to hold it in place. The cable tie turned out to be too short, so I joined two together to make it longer.

Now I'll be working inside the run.

At this part of the assembly, I'm snipping the misting hose and inserting misters.

Then pushing the misting hose onto the other side of the mister.

Then attaching the misting hose to the beam of the run with cable ties.

That process repeats: Snip, insert a mister, attach the misting hose to the other side of the mister, tie it up.

Keep going until you get to the end mister.

So, it's all done except for the hose-filter connector. And I'll add a few more cable ties to tidy it up.

Here are a couple of photos of the whole kit.

And here are the rascals, ready to go to Bunnings with me so I can choose the right connector for them.

I have some misters and misting hose leftover, which might come in handy one day.

I'm back from the shop with the extra connector.

I've hooked it all up and given it a try.

It works great!

The only problem I can see is a leak where all the connectors come together. I'll fix it with plumbers tape.

The misters are working really well. Lots of mist up high and away from the hens.

I don't want them getting wet but I do want the mist to use up the heat in the surrounding area as it evaporates.

It turned out the leaking connectors were due to me not tightening them

It doesn't leak now. Here it is working great at full water pressure.

And I can see rainbows in the mist

As a precaution against mites (the weather is warming up) I'm considering spraying the roost with surface spray.

Yes?

No?

Use Coopex instead?

Use boiling water instead?

Please tell me your thoughts.

Not convinced precautionary cleaning works.

Have you never observed a hen with a serviceable nest skip a day of getting up and be none the worse for it? Or do a 36 hour sit?

Aren't hens better off in the long run if they establish habits of eating and drinking when needed?

Yes. Well Phyllis never got up on her own but I did let her set the last day before the chicks arrived with no damage to her @CrazyChookChookLady has seen that before as well and she advised me it would be alright.
