It's doing quite well, although today's wind broke off a small branch. So far the roots have not been exposed by the hens' ongoing terraforming projects

Here's my plan

• Build the new roosting area (it will provide shade) in the top left corner
• Get the paving done
• Move the little coop to the bottom left corner
• Plant the corner where the little coop is with layers of hen-hiding shrubs and ground covers (top right corner)
• Consider the positioning of the misting nozzles.

I'm going to allow myself one Bunnings purchase a fortnight until the new roosting area is finished. First purchase will be four timbers, with undercoat, paint, and fixings. The weekends between purchases will be for construction and painting.

I don't know how to build things, so I'll be taking it slow. And taking delight in it too.

Now I can get excited for chicks again! (as well as garden and coop plans!)

I tell you what, her attitude has changed markedly now she has eggs.

Way, way more defensive. Way more committed. Very flat on the eggs.

I put a little bowl of food within reach over night and it appears she's eaten about a tablespoon of it without getting up.

Ah, I see. It's kind of a domino effect in reverse. Can't do one thing until the previous job is done.
I'm looking forward to seeing how you progress!

And now Peggy's got eggs in the little coop, I wouldn't want to relocate it.

My chicken garden plans got a bit disrupted so I am starting over.

What other projects do you have in mind now you're retired?

I love succulent gardens! I had a beautiful one a few years ago but it eventually overgrew and got ratty, and most of the plants died, and here is what is left….

What other projects do you have in mind now you're retired?

Not sure yet. I have lots of overdue house and garden projects to start off with.

It's down too what they are comfortable with. You're giving them their own choices

Flexibility is key, right? The flock changes daily and I'm just along for the ride.
