The new treadle feeder has arrived!

Ivy took to it immediately. Janet followed her example within a minute. Mary found her appetite for lettuce overwhelmed her fear after rpughly ten minutes. Peggy has taken much longer, but she has eaten from it once and likes to stare at it.

That's a nice looking feeder. Those inserts are a brilliant idea and must make it easier to clean and refill.

Well done girls getting used to it so quickly. 😁👍

Could you link where you got it from again please MJ?

Here's something interesting.

Remember the frangipani with the bright pink flowers? It's later flowers are pale pink.

Seems very odd to me but maybe it's normal for frangis? Has anyone else seen this happen?
Do you need to replace the ink cartridges?

😜

(invoking David Attenborough)

Here we see the intrepid Gallus gallus domesticus, more commonly known as "the chicken", this one a hen, making its weekly exploration of the homo sapiens habitat.

Now, it cleverly camouflages itself among the forest of furnishings, avoiding detection while pursuing the ultimate goal of dietary supplementation through crumb identification.

Here, in a bold stand off with our camera operator, it displays its bright red face, dark hood, and handsomely marbled feathering over pale grey legs. Look at those defensive claws!

Finally, quick as a flash it scurries off in a bid for freedom from observation... And disappears into the mid afternoon stillness.

Farewell until next time, Gallus gallus domesticus.

I totally read that in my head in David Attenborough’s voice! :lau
Me too! 🤣

I think the inserts would be excellent in a very wet situation because I can see how water would seep in from below and without the plastic inserts, contaminate the food. So I'd use the inserts anywhere with heavy rainfall but I can't see a purpose here in Adelaide.
