MJ's little flock

I love how the hens connect me to dusk and the seasons, like 1000s of years of my forebears who lived before modernity.

In a way, I'll be sad when the new roost is finished and I'll no longer be obliged to close the door after the hens have roosted.
I know how you feel. I was closing and opening their door long after the secure run of the Chicken Palace was constructed.
It took the snow mountain to convince me that they shouldn't have to wait on me hacking my way through the ice before they got to go out and play.
I still close the door after them if it is very, very cold. I don't think it makes that much difference but it makes me feel better!

I get it. It's to feel like you've tucked them in.

New roost progress post

I haven't taken photos because it looks the same as last time. The painting touch ups are all done. There are four more pieces of frame to put up before I can put the sides on. However, I don't have the right screws for the right-angled brackets (or I don't have the right brackets). So there's another shopping bottleneck. But I can cut the timber down to the right size because my brother has let me have his jigsaw for the project. So that'll be the next task.

When the time comes, the jigsaw will come in handy for cutting the corners of the floor panels to make them fit around the upright posts.

I did buy the correct screws for the hanging basket brackets I'll be using to put the roost up, so that's good! But I'd rather not put it up until last because it'll be in way.

And I'm very happy with the floor height. Being able to duck under it is very convenient.

I understand. What makes me wonder though is those who usually say it's only a chicken wouldn't bother stitching up a wounded one.
If it lays a lot of eggs they might try some but not a lot. A lot of the farmers I grew up with fall into that bucket. It's kind of one foot in, one foot out. 😕

We have had break from the rain for a few days, but this afternoon the heavens opened again.

When I went out to check the chooks after the downpour I couldn't see them.

Eventually they saw me and came to see if I had treats. They kept under cover of the eaves the whole way though.

I have no clue of that specific person's preferences and attitudes. As many people take irrational or harmful actions as take rational and beneficial. Trying to reveal someone's train of thought is often impossible and exhausting. I can't be bothered.

Lots of progress is frequently unseen. Keep telling us about it. I love hearing as you progress even if their is no visible changes. :thumbsup

I can appreciate that.

We are very diffferent in this though. The other day Mrs BY Bob told me I had a real appreciation of others point of view. I've spent most of my life trying to understand the motivations of others. It's part of what attracts me to chickens so. I want to understand why they act the way they do.

I do well when people have motivations they can articulate but I'm unwilling to make guesses unless there professional reasons for doing so.
