MJ's little flock

After yesterday's rain I don't need to water the plants, so I've used the time to clear out the little coop and put in fresh straw.

As usual, the hens are finding much work in checking and reorganising all the old straw I've just tipped out.

I'm very happy with the new gates. There were a couple of small jobs that couldn't be done today because of the rain. So they'll be back to do those soon.

This first shot gives an idea of how high the gates are.

And this second shot shows how unlevel the driveway is.

If the hens squeeze underneath, I'll just have to add some chicken wire or something until I get the driveway re-paved.
Beautiful gates, and remote control too! How fancy! 🥰

It must be a great feeling to have your space secured against unwanted visitors or prevent wandering hens at last.

The close call home invasion wasn't a big fright but it added another layer of worry I really didn't need. I feel the same way about the front verandah rebuild. Once that's finished, it'll take a big worry off my mind.

I've hung a water jar under the hens' favourite bush and yesterday they were surprised when (a) I took down the puppy play pen panels and (b) didn't chase them into the relative safety of the backyard. Blossom had first hand experience of the gates closing too, it was quite a surprise when they started closing like magic, she couldn't believe her eyes!

An anxiety relieved.
Yes. It was a relief when the man was arrested and now there's further relief in knowing he can't get to the backdoor and even if he did, I'd have camera footage and the floodlights would come on. I feel confident those things would scare him off.
