MJ's little flock

I can appreciate that.

We are very diffferent in this though. The other day Mrs BY Bob told me I had a real appreciation of others point of view. I've spent most of my life trying to understand the motivations of others. It's part of what attracts me to chickens so. I want to understand why they act the way they do.
I gave up on trying to understand people. Chickens though; now they are far more interesting.

There's an election in South Australia today and I had a malcontent behind me in the queue :sick he was slinging off at the volunteers, calling one of them names based on physical appearance. Moaning about having to vote, wear a mask, get vaccinated... Ugh. There were about 5 of us telling him to shut up and another 20 or so backing us up. Anyway one of the election officials took him out of the line so he could go write/draw his diatribe on his ballots and leave the rest of us in peace.
That is so unnecessary and sad. 😕

Your opinion please. I want to check in with others.

Do you tip out the old water and fill up with fresh water...

From the drinking water?
From the rainwater

Every day?
Once a week?
When it needs changing?
At a minimum, I refresh their water containers at least weekly. That includes a soapy scrub. That works good in the winter.

I will scrub them when they are visibly mucky which occurs more often in the summer. Usually every other day.

I use tap water. From the outside tap in the summer and from the bathtub in the winter.

I am so glad I asked!

I've been emptying and refilling 6 water dispensers with drinking water from the tap every day. One poly pipe with a cup, three ceramic jars, and two plastic bell jars. I tip the water on the plants so it's not wasted.

But now I'm thinking I can save time by switching over to doing it when it doesn't look healthy. And maybe use fewer water dispensers.
When it is hot I deploy water containers all over the yard. I want there to be water where they are. I think as many as 8 when it is topping 100°F.

"So a combo of ceramic jar and nearby bowl might be a winner."

I have ceramic pet bowls for the chooks as well as the terracotta saucers for the dogs. They are easy to re-fill but also fill with leaves easily. That's not a problem your lovely water jars have. ❤️

Quote function still isn't working for me. 😢
