MJ's little flock

I don't know if this could work - but would it help if you had a really thick layer of bedding - pine shavings or leaves - under the roost so she wouldn't hurt herself if she jumped off?
I could do that, but she’ll probably just bed down in the pine shavings. I’ll keep experimenting. She was up on the roost last night but when I went back later she was back on the floor.

Maybe someone is kicking her off the roost? Have you seen any aggressive behaviour at roosting time?

Not towards Tegan, she’s alpha again. She may have fallen off. I’m thinking of making a wider roost lower down where she shouldn’t get pooped on.

She sounds a little like Hattie. Is she eating when she gets down? Is there food in the coop?

No. I originally intended for the treadle feeder to go in there, but it doesn’t really fit.
That's a little disappointing I'm sure. You may need to get cameras. I'm very interested in why a hen would "unroost".

I could probably send you one cheaper than that. I wonder if terracotta would arrive in one piece. Maybe it would if I packed it properly.
I've bought a few things from overseas that needed good packing ~ usually fitted styerofoam plus bubble wrap. I'd ask the company about packaging because so much stuff comes from somewhere else to start with & they may have packaging or good suggestions.
