MJ's little flock

I am tempted to say ‘nobody died’ which is kinda how I feel, but actually today was a good day.
Everyone was out and about. There was sunbathing and foraging and lots of chatter.
There were melon guts and zucchini/courgette tops and everyone had some.

Here is everyone out and about.

Marvelous! 🥰

On the way home from the vet, I opened Jan's basket in case she wanted to hop out. She's very confident in the car these days and I knew I could trust her to be sensible. She decided to hop up onto the edge of the basket and rode like that for 10 minutes. Then she hopped onto the seat for a while before finally settling down on the floor.

I don't know what it is but my chickens seem to love the car. I love that picture!

I can't work out why Janet is so much more susceptible to bacteria than the other three hens.

Bacteria are environmental right? And they're all in the same environment.

The other hens should be struggling with bacteria too.
It could be a difference in normal flora or just they way their immune system responds to them.

Most likely it is related to antibiotics. Once you administer antibiotics it can be hard to get the normal flora back in order. Janet continues to get antibiotics so that is creating an unfortunate cycle. As soon as you end the Linco try to get her on a good probiotic that has a blend of bacteria, not just one or two types.

Most probiotics are not diverse enough. They only have 1 or 2 types of bacteria. The best have 5 or more.

Thanks Bob! I'll look around for the right probiotics.

Bob, do you think this one will be beneficial?

It never ceases to amaze me how yours eat off their own plates. Mine have such fear of missing out that they rush to see what the other ones have.
Oh, they squabble! Janet is particularly fond of taking food from Ivy! But I snap them in quiet moments.
