MJ's little flock

Maybe. I’m not set up to have multiple roosters, however.
In Australia, it's possible to buy fertile eggs to put under a broody. I got Mary's eggs for free from a neighbour.

Maybe you're thinking of roosters that might hatch, in which case, yes it's a moral challenge.

Yes, I was thinking of roosters that might hatch. I’d LOVE to have one rooster, but don’t tell DH! :lau

Sleep well pullets

We're back from the vet and all's well but for an odd substance expelled by Lorna, which Mark has taken a sample of. It appears to have come from her vent.

And he thinks Edie might be a cockerel with a wide pelvis. Understandably sexed as a pullet. So that's a wait and see situation.

If she's a cockerel, the options are return to the fodder store and exchange for a pullet (I have no clue how humane his end would be), or keep him until he's noisy then have him humanely put to sleep. I'll probably keep him until he's noisy. He might as well live the high life while he can.

The next appointment was for Peggy and Mary on hatch day, so I've said Mary will be too busy for her appointment so let's give it to Janet instead.

At some point, the river chickens will need check ups too.

There is a swab for MG but Mark said it's cheaper to keep them in quarantine, so just carry on for another week.
Well done again MJ. I knew it could be tested for but not at what price.

I daresay price would vary widely from market to market. I may ask for an MG swab of Janet's bacteria when she has her checkup next weekend.

I saw @Perris commented that MG is probably in most chicken flocks already. I guess healthy birds aren't bothered by it.
