MJ's little flock

It was a very warm day, 33C and in spite of the fan blowing all day, the laundry was stifling when I got home from work and the river chickens were doing their best to keep cool, panting, wings out etc .

I provided cold tomato immediately and turned the fan to face them.

They'll be ok but it was too hot in there.

Fortunately the temps are forecast to cool down a little for the next week or so. Hopefully the pullets will be living with the hens before the week's out, then the river chickens can have a healthier space until their quarantine is up.

In the little coop, Mary was surprisingly ok, but she'd have been panting earlier in the day.

Chicks tomorrow? They're due Sunday. Maybe Monday?

As she has the eggs so far forward in the little coop, I'll put food and water in the nest box section and clear a path. I bought some chick raiser the other day.

I'll also put a fence of puppy panels around the little coop to keep Peggy at bay until the chicks are agile.

(Assuming there will be chicks at all)

I think it might be. She has a throat or respiratory infection, but it might be secondary to salpingitis or EYP. 😢 I want to give her a chance so got antibiotics and pain relief.
So sorry friend :hugs
:(

Do you know which antibiotic she's on? Is it lincospectin or clavulox?

Me too. I like the untidy barring at the end too.

How are your hens doing RC?
Awww. Thanks for asking. Diana’s molt continues apace but I do see new feathers and she is eating so hopefully is OK. I more worry about her in spring if she tries to lay again. She no longer puts shells on her eggs and I think she was laying internally. We take one day at a time.
She does seem to have figured out how to keep Bernie away from her favorite roosting spot so she is asserting herself which is good.
It is cold but not insanely cold so I am hoping she gets new feathers before we go into single digits Fahrenheit.
