MJ's little flock

5% bleach is what we use in the lab. Nothing is better for killing microbes. Just be sure to flush the system after you use it.
I suppose I could partially empty the garden hose at the misting system end and use a funnel to get a little bleach into it.

The nozzles are brass, as in proper brass without any coatings. Will the bleach and brass react in a detrimental way?

Nowadays, they use the roost for relaxing as well as sleeping.

Yes - bleach does interact with brass and will corrode it. Probably you could get away with a tiny amount but maybe you could something like oxine which is a very effective disinfectant specifically indicated for water lines for animals and I believe is non-corrosive to metals.

I'm so glad I thought to ask! Thank you RC!

@RoyalChick I've just received photos of the cat basket. It won't arrive until January because it's the cheapest shipping from Scotland. I assume it's shipped in an actual ship.

I asked if he's ever made baskets for chickens. It would have to be much deeper with the opening on the side, a dropped floor to contain shavings, and a perch.

But perhaps this top-opening cat basket will work well for chooks.

There's not much pullet grower left and the label says at 16 weeks, they can start eating adult food.

So, when the pullet grower runs out, I'll start placing the pullets in the big coop after dark and getting up early to open up in case of a ruckus develops.
Oh, I hope Bella is okay eating the Red Hen 17! I don’t actually know how old she is; I’m guessing 14-16 weeks. But Snowy was 14 weeks and I can’t remember if we got something specific for her.

Actually, now that I think about it, we did give them some chicken grower pellets. I ducked back out to the pet shop and grabbed a bag. They also have chicken swings and glockenspiels!

Both vinegar and bleach will corrode brass. Even hydrogen peroxide will. You may have to clean it with soap.
