MJ's little flock

This is exciting news. Were you always planning to have some one else put the roof on?
No. But I could not work out how best to do it. Polycarb? Sheets of ply? Coreflute? Corro?

So I booked an expert. He's going to use dark tinted polycarb and add a gutter with a down pipe. All I need do is finish off the fun parts that are a little more within my scope.

It is very mature to know when you need help. Good for you. 👍

I'm looking forward to seeing it done.

Wise decision. I am excited to see the result.
I am also keen to learn alongside you how to migrate a roosting spot.

Eli and Babs are becoming too fond of their impractical location in the run.

I guess it is a bit of a problem. They might hurt themselves getting down.

My grand plan is to move everyone over at night while they sleep until they decide to roost there without my interference. They seem quite keen on the idea already. Ivy, Peggy and Mary have been enjoying late evenings in the run. All three of them are in there right now!

Here's Ivy on the table in the run, inspecting some scraps from a new bale of straw in case there are any edible bits to be had.

Hmmm. I don’t think I can practically get them down once they are up there.
Even with a ladder and a long handled tool it would be quite difficult.
I am going to try and lure them into the coop before bed.
Even then they will likely go to the rafters but will be more protected from the elements if it gets really cold.

Luring would surely work out well. Especially if there's something you could use to block off access to the rafter zone.

My babies are all roosting on the bench top, because Snowy pecks them on the head!

I know it sounds silly, but I am really hoping they decide things for themselves. I am still hoping that their interest in being with other chickens will get them moving into the coop.
