MJ's little flock

Joycey had her follow up a couple of hours ago. Christa went along for the ride and had her belly squeezed by Dr Mark who thought he might as well check her too as she was in the room. He didn't find anything suspicious and that's consistent with her behaviour, which is as rambunctious as ever.

I couldn't say Joyce was 100% back to normal, only 90%. When he squeezed her belly he said "yes, there's something in there." It would be a infected egg yolks. Anyway as surgery for eyp is not as easy as Mary's hernia surgery or Peggy's exploratory surgery that revealed her fractured liver, he gave her two injections: vitamins and antibiotics. To be repeated this Friday and Monday evenings, with the probiotics continuing at the same time. It's hoped this treatment will push her over the finish line.

Her next review appointment is Friday next week and if she's still not entirely well, we'll have a think about surgery.
I hope she gets better.
If it turns out she does need the surgery, it likely gives her a better chance if she has it when she's doing ok rather than being already weak and unwell.

Yes, it'll be more successful if she's healthier. That said, Dr Mark is a very good chicken surgeon, so she has that on her side,

MJ - still a Longshanks!

Look at those sweethearts!

Do they have names now? Do her longshanks wobble at all?
So far her longshanks are steady as a rock. She is very feisty - today she jumped up to peck Babs and Bernadette. Seriously that is just rude. No respect for her elders! Her name is Sylvie.
Here are all five lined up for ballet practice.
From left to right:
Calypso
Sylvie (Longshanks)
Tassels (wearing lightly feathered leg warmers)
Piglet (Miss Pigletine on formal occasions)
Winnie (the Pooh) who is far too grown up for ballet

They made a big leap forward in their development today and are now pretty much all over the place - though they do go back to their little safe house for naps.

Winnie's crest gets me every time!

Lovely names, I'm not surprised Piglet stuck :) Is Sylvie Longshanks named after Bob's Sylvie?

Only sort of. I would say it acknowledges Bob's Sylvie.
There are lots of reasons and it just fit.
I had an Uncle and Aunt (not actually related) called Bernie and Sylvia - and she is the same breed as my Bernadette (Bernie). She is the silver color of that breed so that sort of worked.
But honestly, I am not very disciplined about naming - it just came up and seemed to fit.

Hello, MJ and everyone. I’m popping in to say hi. Oh goodness, it seems I’ve lost track of all the new chicks and chickens this year. I’m so sorry. As for me, I haven’t gotten new chicks after all. The lady I wanted to buy them from seems unorganized and has been having trouble sexing them. I really cannot risk 50% roosters. I still may get some from alchemist farms, but I’m just not sure. We’re going to Canada in June and then to Ibiza , Spain in September. This might not be the year for new chicks.

Here’s some tax… I love all these arses in the air.
