MJ's little flock

Yes, chicks and friends.

It looks wonderful RC!
Still a lot to get done but with the new roof and a coat of paint at least I have stopped the rot.
The gutters will make a big difference too once fully attached.
Now to stop the damn ground hog from chewing his way in!

Blossom is having a check up and it's made her very sad and worried. We'll be home again very soon.

I bet that's a relief! I imagine rot can demolish a barn in time.

What's the ground hog going in there for?

Shelter.
The groundhog believes that under the barn is their space. There is a lean-to at the end and they went in there and burrowed under the foundation of the barn.
I found a roll of welded wire in the barn left over by the previous owners and I have stapled that to the ground so the groundhog cannot tunnel under. At least not from there. So he is chewing his way in instead.
They are very destructive creatures!

Would a purpose built groundhog house help? I daresay it's been tried and failed.

Oh she does look worried.
Still, she does better than one of mine who becomes all claws and fangs!
She was very well-behaved in my presence. The vet said she kicked off in the other room when they shaved her leg and took a blood sample.

We're home again now and I've been forgiven. Her big basket was a joy to close and carry her in. So much easier than the old cat carriers, when we had to fight each other.

They have created many purpose built houses for themselves. They dig deep burrows with multiple entrances. They are real ankle-breakers if you put your foot in one by mistake.
It's a tricky problem! Even filling the holes wouldn't work because the ground hogs would dig new ones.

Yup. Hopefully I can use wire to stop them getting in to the barn.
My next priority is getting them away from the roots of a favorite little tree that I think they will kill by destroying the roots.
I have some bulk hot borrower that is rumored to make them move away. I am skeptical but will try anything!
