I'm feeling very grateful that I've not had the shock of losing a hen in fox raid since 2017. The foxes have visited in that time, but so far they've gone away hungry. It seems the run is doing what it should.

The hens' geraniums are very pretty.

It is such a gorgeously peaceful evening. I can hear the traffic over on the main road, baby birds cheeping from their nest in the gumtree a few houses up the street, a train rumbling, birds calling to each other and the hens tapping away at their food. The only smell is from the mosquito coil.

Here's a minute thirty of Mary enjoying her daily happy hour while I waited for the team to turn in for the night.

It's another exceptionally still evening. I can hear wings fluttering when birds fly past and the glugging of the hens' water dispensers as they equalise.

It was an office day today, so the hens were in the run until 4.30pm. Many new holes were dug in the run. I assume there's some kind of shoot or bug the hens dig out and eat.

All five hens seem healthy and cheerful.

Feeling very worried.

Mary pooped what looks like albumen.

I'll call the vet and see if we can figure out an appointment for her.

She seems very preoccupied.

The vet's closed. I'll call again first thing in the morning.

She laid a normal, hard shelled egg this morning.

While I was waiting for the video to upload, a shell-less egg with a membrane came out.

She mostly skipped happy hour and dinner.

I hope this is due to ageing and not something serious.

Am about to start reading up.
