MJ's little flock

About tuna, the mercury content made national news yesterday because a french NGO published worrying test results on Tuna cans from many different European countries, and a study about tuna and mercury.
This is not the first scandal of poisoned food Ive been reading today.

There was an investigation on bird feed sold in shops in the Netherlands . 8 out of 9 batches contained poisons. The poisoned batches were bought/insecticides in different kind if shops like supermarkets, garden centres and a bird protection organisation. The only one free of poison was an organic brand.

The amounts of poisons the investigators found varied, but the amounts were so high they are a threat for the wild birds.

Yes, your number 1 and number 2 are commonly used in the kind of trans-Atlantic English I am familiar with. Actually I am not 100% sure that number 2 works in US English.
But a Tinny in Australia also refers to a can of beer, and a small open boat. The boat one I learned of here from our Australian friends. The beer one I was already familiar with.
