MJ's little flock

Well, they should be six weeks on Thursday, but the Australorps are still carrying a lot of down and I suspect the Sussex are a few days older - they might be six weeks already.

I'll keep reading the morning poops and give it a week of no heat plate poops before turning it off and taking it away.

Today's my first day of leave, although I'll have to work this afternoon. Anyway, I promised myself a beach walk and maybe a swim every morning while I'm off work, that way it'll feel like a holiday :D 🏖️🏊‍♀️🍨

So I got up really early to get out before my morning chicken chores, hopped in the car (normally I'd walk but it was a rather warm morning) and off I went. Halfway there I thought huh, what's that noise? A bit further on I thought it was maybe a flat tyre? I parked at the beach and, yep, flat tyre. I seem to recall dad telling me to never drive on a flat tyre, but I went ahead and drove slowly home again. Mainly because I didn't have drinking water with me and I knew I'd need some if I was going to be changing a tyre. I was delighted to discover all the necessary equipment in the boot and I got my morning exercise by changing the tyre.

Anyway... At least it all happened before the sun came up so I didn't get roasted, only a little simmered 🥵

What an eventful start to Christmas hols!
Your dad was right. You can damage the rim by driving on it. Hopefully the rubber of the flat tyre perfected the rim.

I'm not saying I haven't driven on a rim in a pinch just that it's not the best solution.

I'm glad you got it home and got the tyre changed successfully.

Deep down I knew it, but although the sun wasn't up it was rather warm (as in mid-30s) and I couldn't face changing the tyre without water to drink. Also, when I made the choice to drive back home I didn't know I had a brace and a functioning jack in the boot - I thought I might need things from the shed. It was a short distance, I didn't exactly how short, but have now looked it up on google maps and it's only 500m. Also there were quite a number of intimidating people down at the beach who I think maybe stayed out last night. Not homeless people, more like excessive partying people if you catch my drift - one was doing what looked like standing meditation in the middle of the road. So in the back of my mind I was also thinking if I ruin the rim, maybe it's worth the expense. And it was a very slow drive home again.

I was very pleased when I found all the right tools in the boot and then remembered all the steps. At first I put the jack in the wrong place, but I got it right second time around. Then I couldn't figure out how to use the pieces to form a handle to turn the jack, but worked that out too. And I had Blossom by my side, keeping watch over me. Not one passing pedestrian asked if I needed help - mind you, it is a work day so maybe they didn't have time.

I'm really glad it worked out so well. That's not very far to drive slowly on a rim. You should be fine.

Turns out the tyre was punctured through the sidewall, which reminded me of something my hairdresser told me when I saw her two Fridays ago: people in the neighbourhood have been waking up to find their car tyres punctured. Someone has been going around and puncturing car tyres at night. So I checked my security cameras and there's no footage. Either they sneaked through and avoided the cameras or I somehow punctured the sidewall while driving around (which seems unlikely).

Either way, I'll start parking the car beyond the gates again. I only gave up on that because the hens were using the car space - it's where their favourite tree is. But I'm sure they can share it with the car.

People in my neighborhood had a similar problem. It seems like someone who hates cars or the people here, throws strange screws on driveways. The screws often land on the flat end with the point up.
You can imagine what happens the next morning.

Maybe he quit or got caught, because I haven't heard anything like this in the past year.

It's such a shame when you consider how much of life we spend earning money to trade for things. Money for four tyres takes roughly 2-4 days of my life to earn (depending on which brand of tyres) and I resent someone wasting that time.

Glad it worked out. I am sure Blossom was a big help.
I haven’t suffered this, but there has been a lot of issues with disposable vapes puncturing tyres. Who would have thought!

She was a huge comfort and a capable supervisor who chipped in some labour by doing a great job holding the shopping bags in place.

Wow, I wouldn't have thought a vape would have the strength to puncture a tyre! There must be something very strong and sharp inside.
