It's not my thread and I didn't know you well, but I'm sure MJ won't mind if I say please come posting here whenever you feel like it, and share what you want. It's a huge loss and step into the unknown when the person you've shared and built most your life with is gone.

I cannot get over how much more trusting these little ones are in comparison to older pullets. The difference is huge!

Edie is having an ultrasound, two xrays, mealworms and sunflower seeds.

She saw Dr Louise who checked her all over and found Edie sore in the lower reproductive area. It could be a gastrointestinal problem or it could be reproductive problem.

Images will provide clues.

And I was almost home from the vet when an iconic Australian Christmas song came on the radio and I had to do a lap around the block to hear it to the end while choking up and weeping.

It would be on my mind to. Most of the hens I've known die of a sickness had some reproductive tract problem. The symptoms one sees is often not the cause of death. A lot of sicknesses lead to very similar outwardly visible behaviour. Very difficult to put an exact cause to such problems with being able to scan the insides.
We had two strains of coccidiosis in Catalonia. It had killed lots of chicks who were incubator hatched and back then when I saw a hen with the classic outward signs, I treated her for coccidiosis. She even perked up for a couple of days but died a few days later. Most of the deaths at the field have been EYP or related.
I've often wondered if EYP is a direct result of breeding for more eggs than nature intended.
