MJ's little flock

I had the same feeling a few years ago when I lost several chickens and ended up with 5.

I searched on our ‘marketplace’ a kind of Craigslist here. Was thinking about buying eggs, if I had a broody. But it was rather late in the season. Then I found an add from a girl who had a lonely hen who couldn’t keep her.
So I was happy to welcome Kraai as the 6th member of the flock. She’s the chicken in my avatar.
Thats wonderful. So good of you to give her a home. :love

This thread is so uplifting today! :celebrate

An enormous relief.

I miss him though. So does Melissa.

And now there are only five chickens, which seems very few.
I once thought 5 chickens would be way to many. Now, it's funny how I always seem to wind up at that number no matter how many I add by what means. 🫤

For example, last year in July, I had 6 hens, 2 went broody, I got 11 eggs for them to hatch.

Phyllis passed = 5 chickens

3 hatched = 8 chickens

1 chick failed to thrive = 7 chickens

Glynda passed = 6 chickens

Versace is a rooster = 5 chickens by Oct

There are herbs that are supposed to help. Where is your witch when you need her? I don't suppose you can contact her...? Willow bark is used for headaches but I suspect any herb would barely take the edge of the pain compared to the opioids commonly used.
Willow bark was the source of aspirin.

Willows = Salix species -> salicylic acid -> acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) = aspirin

Not arguing! It’s astonishing how many medications have herbal origins. Madagascar periwinkle (Catharanthus roseus, originally Vinca rosea) is endangered in its original habitat, and is the source of vincristine and vinblastine, treatments for some childhood leukemias as well as other malignancies.

- Madagascar periwinkle is grown almost globally as an ornamental plant, so it is not globally endangered. It seems that if a plant (or animal) is either pretty or useful to humans, we actually try to preserve it. 🙄
