Sorry MJ but I can't resist. One of our favorite poems as little girls. It appealed to our sense of the silly:

The Common Cormorant or shag
Lays eggs inside a paper bag.
The reason you will see no doubt
It is to keep the lightning out.
But what these unobservant birds
Have never noticed is that herds
Of wandering bears may come with buns
And steal the bags to hold the crumbs.

I only learned as an adult that it is by Christopher Isherwood. Also I believe in fact that cormorants and shags are slightly different birds, but it still makes me giggle.

her eggs have so far continued to be tiny! I love it.

I don't think Agnes Australorp will be with us much longer. She's lacking energy and sometimes I think maybe she's beginning to develop paralysis.
