Maybe he’s trying to tempt you to cross a line? Seems best to be xtra careful with this guy in the future. On the other hand it might be completely innocent. Respectful is often just not in the vocabulary of young people. Not about chickens, just sharing.
I coordinate the teaching of a large first year course. The staff I recruit are brilliant and mostly the students are ok too.
A student asked me for an online meeting. It had to be online and at a specific time because of his commitments. Ok. I agreed and sent a link.
The student had a question that could obviously have been resolved with email. Worse, he was in bed with no visible clothing (thankfully not exposed below the chest).
How revolting. I was absolutely disgusted. I cannot recall a time I have been shown so much disrespect in my workplace.
It also made me think about the risks associated with holding online meetings with students.
How did you react? Not about chickens, just sharing.

Sadly this is considered appropriate these days. Not about chickens, just sharing.

It's not the norm in my experience. It's slovenly and disrespectful. Why would anyone trust someone who can't remember to take a business call? Someone who fails to demonstrate reliability and trustworthiness on an early call will be a nightmare later on when discussions get complex.Sadly this is considered appropriate these days.
I had a call with another company the other day and the representative was late to the call. They arrived right before I was going to hang up and move on.
It was clear they had been working out and forgotten about our call. The woman had thrown on a button up shirt over her workout clothes. Her right collar was turned under and the shirt was off her left shoulder. Her hair was up in a "speed" bun with flyers in all directions.
We had a 30 (well 25) minute call and she never fixed her shirt. It definitely distracted me. Unfortunately, most of what I remember from the meeting was her attire.
Don't get me started on the virtual job interviews I do. What I see there is crazy.

To be clear, I expect better. I have issued a policy regarding appearance and backgrounds for the company. We will not be doing webinars looking like that. It's not the norm in my experience. As for the student who failed to get out of bed and put clothes on to attend the meeting that was scheduled to fit into his important commitments... I'm taking a few days for my revulsion and anger to subside and for my senior colleagues to get up to speed and give their advice before delivering a written lesson in appropriate conduct.
As for myself and anyone I can convince, it will be my camera off and automatic recording for every single 1 to 1 online meeting with a student from now on.

The astonishing thing to me was why not fix the shirt during the call? You can see yourself. Tidy up a little.

Both you and @BY Bob seem very accommodating of this. Why wouldn’t you say - make another appointment when you are prepared/presentable and just hang up.Yep. Slovenly.
Imagine what her work is like if she can't straighten a shirt.
That cat is really very large. I know we know that, but there is just a lot of cat on display in this picture! To be clear, I expect better. I have issued a policy regarding appearance and backgrounds for the company. We will not be doing webinars looking like that.
