MKK Farms. Updates, pics, and stories!

Tomorrow I want to candle the eggs under my broody. Its around day seven now so I am excited to see how they are coming along.
Has anyone gotten new birds lately?
Awesome! I won't be getting any new chickens this year (crazy, right?), however, I think I'll be getting some next year. I wasn't planning on getting anymore next year, but I lost 2/10 chickens last month so I might actually need chickens, lol.

Yup!

First eggs are awesome.
Do you have a pretty big garden?

No, we have some herbs in pots and a few in the ground near the compost pile. My youngest just "planted" some sunflower seeds the other day; he took a handful from my bag for feeding the chickens and then asked me if he could plant them. "Sure" I said "go ahead". =) We'll see if anything comes of them.
I'm planning on getting some seeds tomorrow. We'll see if anything comes of them too. lol

I just got some chicks week before last. I assume you'll want to see pics, huh?
These are some rare breed assorted pullets I got:

This is a pullet that came w/ some RIRs I got from TSC; we don't know what she is.

This is Pinkie, I hatched her in Nov. (That's Cottonball hiding behind her)

This is Cottonball. I hatched her last month.

Okay nice.

The chick in the third picture is really pretty. What breed is she?

Quick update: I candled the eggs under my broody and it is looking good. I only had one infertile egg (to my knowledge) out of the original seven I put under her. But I did end up throwing out four or five eggs because one of my annoying hens from on the other side of the makeshift wall keeps sneaking in and laying eggs.

I have yet to candle the other seven in my incubator. =)

Hey! Been reading through this thread.....great pics and lots of interest. We are thinking of getting chickens again. Had a great bunch a few years ago. We hatched our own, actually hand tamed about 50 chicks, kept about 40, sold the extras off, kept the chickens just for eggs and amusement. We had a really fun time raising them for about three years. Started loosing some to a hawk in the area, traded some off to a friend and ended up wanting to start fresh so sold off the whole bunch. It's been a while but I think I got hurt pretty bad which helped us to consider selling them off. We did plan to start back up the following spring and for some reason didn't. We had RIR, Barred Rocks/Marans mixed/, Orpington's, Black Sex Link, Silkies, Polish & the prettiest little Banty Rooster. Was alot of fun and a good way to meet people....we sold some eggs. Sure would like to do it again starting this spring. Really enjoying this thread.

This isn't the best place for this. There's an emergency section. You'll be best off there. If you need help finding info or navigating the site, PM me. I'll be happy to help! =)
